Recording of September focus call now available online

We are pleased to announce that a recording of our September Focus Call is now available for download. Click here to download the call September 2012 Focus call on DFID

The call is a ‘back to basics’ explanation of the UK Department for International Development and explains the way the agency is structured, its history, ministers and areas of work. Specific attention is paid to the recent ministerial reshuffle, which has seen new the replacement of the Secretary of State and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State.

The call is led by Dan Jones, Campaigns Manager at RESULTS UK with four years experience of work in the civil service. The call is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to learn about how the UK government spends its overseas aid.

Recording of July focus call on media work now available

July focus call announced: Learn how to hold an eye catching media event

We are pleased to announce that the July focus call will take place next Tuesday, 17th July at 7pm

For our August action we are going to be asking grassroots to hold small events in their communities as a way to gain media coverage in order to rasie the public profile of educaion and disability. This focus call will give you a useful practical guide to how you can make the most of this action and ensure that you generate the right kind of coverage at the right time.

The call will be managed by staff at RESULTS who will take you through step by step how to make your events a success.

Our guest speakers on the call were Becky Owens of AERAS, a product development partnership (PDP) working to expedite the development and roll out of new vaccines against tuberculosis, and Gavin Steadman-Bryce from the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative another PDP working to develop a vaccine against HIV/AIDS.

Both speakers discussed the work they are doing in their respective fields to make new vaccines a  reality, the importance of vaccines in terms of combating the two diseases,  the PDP model and it’s benefits as well as specifically addressing the challenegs that are particular to vaccine development.

The call was hugely informative and will assist all grassroots as we continue to undertake advocacy in support of the development of new vaccines.

RESULTS May focus call announced: the search for an AIDS and a TB vaccine

We are pleased to announce That the next RESULTS focus call will take place on Tuesday 15th May at 7pm. The call is titled ‘The search for an AIDS and a TB vaccine‘. Our guest on the call will be Gavin Steadman-Bryce from the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI).

IAVI is a global not-for-profit organization whose mission is to ensure the development of safe, effective, accessible, preventive HIV vaccines for use throughout the world.

Development of safe and effective vaccines against TB and HIV would represent the most important steps towards controlling and eradicating the spread of both diseases and vaccine development is currently progressing well. As RESULTS continues to support the work of organisations like IAVI and TBVI, we felt it important to take stock of the situations surrounding the development of those vaccines.

March focus call announced: RESULTS work on vaccines

We are pleased to announce that our February 2012 focus call will take place next Tuesday, 20th March at 7pm and will offer a recap of the work of RESULTS grassroots on the issue of global vaccination over the past year. We will be joined on the call by Mark Staniland, Vaccines Advocacy Coordinator, RESULTS UK and Aaron Oxley, Executive Director, RESULTS UK. We only began working on vaccines here at RESULTS in the last year but we have already had some huge success. We were name checked by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisations as being a key civil society partner in helping them to hold a successful pledging conference in July of last year, during which they raised over $4 billion dollars for their childhood immunisation programs.

We will be talking about how our grassroots contributed to that success as well discussing some of our other work on generating support for these life saving interventions.

On the call we were joined by Mark Staniland, Vaccines Advocacy Coordinator at RESULTS UK. Mark covered the three main institutions of the E.U: the Parliament, Commission and Council of Ministers, before discussing the E.U budget, known as the Multi Annual Financial Framework (MFF) and the various funding instruments that finance development within that  budget.

The call provides excellent preparation for our upcoming March action which will focus on generating support among MEPs for protecting international development in the upcoming MFF.

As we are undertaking more and more work that focuses on the European Union, we feel it appropriate to hold a briefing call for all of our advocates, to help them get up to speed on this occasionally complicated set of institutions.

The call will be useful preparation for our March action which will be focused on advocating for health and education to be included fully in the upcoming EU budget.
